DisAbility On Tour

10th December 2017
Following an invitation to play football in Tavistock by the Tavispecials and the promise of sausage and chips afterwards players, supporters and coaches from this season's new St Agnes AFC Dis-ability Squad boarded a bus on tour to Devon. On arrival in Tavistock the shout on the bus was heard "Where are the sausage and chips?" The two St Agnes teams played in a mixed abilities round-robin friendly event with Tavispecials and Special Olympics enjoying some excellent football and scoring great goals. A Christmas Sausage and Chips Social followed at Tavistock FC before they boarded the bus back to Cornwall.

A wonderful enriching opportunity for the players with great hospitality in Tavistock. St Agnes AFC Dis-ability have extended an invitation to the Tavispecials to visit them in 2018. They would like to say an enormous thank you to everyone who has sponsored and supported them so far as trips like this would not otherwise be possible.

Vets' Goal Bonanza

10th December 2017

Once again last weekend’s programme of fixtures in the Q Cornwall Leisure Veterans League was decimated by the inclement weather. The only match to survive was at Par Running Track where Royal Par entertained St Agnes Bolsters in Division 2. On a very heavy pitch the home side went ahead after 13 minutes, but two minutes later Colin Kettle brought the visitors level. On the half hour Mark Wade headed home to put Bolsters 2-1 ahead. The rest of the first half became the Trevor Wisker show as he hit a five-minute hat trick, his second coming from the penalty spot, to stretch the half time lead to 5-1.

The second period saw Royal pushing for a way back into the game and were given a glimmer of hope on the hour when they were awarded a penalty of their own. Unfortunately though for the home side the spot kick was missed, but soon after they did get a goal back from open play. However, Wisker and Kettle added to their personal tallies and late goals from Dan O’Toole and Steve Bayley completed a 9-2 rout. On target for Royal were Kevin Allen and Dave Holley.

3rd December 2017

St Agnes AFC Dynamos Girls coach Charlotte Collier was shortlisted for Young Coach of the year as one of only three across all sports by the UK Coaching Awards. A Liverpool FC fan through and through Charlotte sat beside David Unsworth, Everton FC player and manager, who attempted unsuccessfully to convert her allegiance! The category was won by a rowing coach from Cambridge University but all at St Agnes AFC are very proud of her achievement to be shortlisted in a keenly contested award.

Ladies Win

5th November 2017

St Agnes AFC Ladies 4-1 Helston

Having gone 1-0 down via a penalty in the first half and with 5 of the previous weeks starting line up unavailable, the whole St Agnes AFC Lady's team battled and pulled off an outstanding 4-1 win at home against a recently strengthened Helston Ladies. Sarah Fisher in her club debut and first ever ladies fixture, was Maid of the Match with young Em Brown impressive on the wing. Stand-in keeper Lyndsey Cowl was outstanding for St Agnes AFC with goals scored by Jodie Hood, Mollie Dring (2) and Laura-beth Medcalfe.

Durning Lawrence Cup

4th November 2017

CCFA Charity Cup St Agnes (Combo League) v Wendron SWPL. Facing opposition from a team in a higher league and after the way St Agnes 1st team's season had been going manager, Martyn Kimmins, decided to use the match to change things around a bit. Notably moving Terry Luke Campbell up front having his best game of the season and Mark Bell excellent in mid-field with an encouraging debut from Matt Probin as left back. With no keeper available the ever young Stephen Kemp (Bolster Veterans team aged 45!) donned the gloves and pulled off an admirable performance between the sticks! In what Martyn called the teams' best performance of the season St Agnes took the lead through Terry and everyone in the squad gave a good performance and played excellently during the first half with St Agnes leading to the halftime break. Wendron came back out fighting after the interval and hit the post twice, but St Agnes defended resolutely. A lapse of concentration in injury time saw Wendron score the equaliser from a cross taking the game to extra time. The Wendron fitness levels took over and a number of St Agnes injuries became apparent. With all permitted substitutes used Wendron took the lead and won 1-3. FRUSTRATING! Proceeds from the fixture as part of the CCFA Charity Cup Competition will be donated to the Invictus Trust supporting teenagers with mental health needs and associated issues (who were represented at the match). We will be donating £175 from gate, raffle, sweepstake and tea & cake sales. Thank you everyone who supported!

St Agnes U18's 7-2 Godolphin U18's

St Agnes U18s began their KYFL league campaign at the weekend with a fantastic performance! It was a great day for their manager Mark Norgate whose your only contribution to the game was to watch, applaud and occasionally beam with pride. Another hat-trick for 'goal machine' Andrew Govan (97 total), a hat-trick for Jake Flamank and a stunning strike from Toby Neal completed the scoring with a commanding performance from stand-in keeper Liam Taylor when called upon. But this was a  stunning all round team performance from the team of 11 including: Kieran Jarvis, Nathanael Potts, Jake Dawson, James Blackler, Marshall McAdams, Sean Burns and Jacob Milligan.

Bolster Vets 3-1 Saltash Vets

17th September 2017

Fancied Veterans League newcomers Saltash United traveled to Enys Park to face St Agnes Bolsters. The visitors dominated the first 20 minutes with home keeper Mark Norgate pulling off two great saves and Paul Sidey striking a great shot against the inside of the post. Aggie started to come more into the game and had a couple of half chances with Danny O'Hagan crashing a header off the crossbar. The opening goal came from the hosts ten minutes before the break after a foul in the area gave O'Hagan the chance to smash home the penalty low to the keepers right. The lead only lasted 3 minutes when the Ashes were awarded a penalty of their own and Chris Truscott made no mistake from the spot. The second half was end to end with both sides going for the win. The hosts went back in front with about 15 to go when Dave Turner whipped In a corner kick and the visiting keeper could only palm the ball into his own net. With four minutes remaining substitute Mark Rapsey made the game safe for the hosts when he curled a free kick over the wall and in off the underside of the bar.

Charity Cheque Presentations

St Agnes AFC hosted the first FA Sanctioned Mixed Gender 11-a-side Charity Fixture in England at Enys Parc in May with members of the mens' and lady's team playing an entertaining match and raising £700 to be split between two important Cornish Charities. The money was raised by donations and a mini-auction for Penhaligon's Friends supporting bereaved children and The Merlin MS Centre. St Agnes AFC Ladies players Jodie Hood and Lexi Riley, who had played in the match, visited the charities to present them each with a cheque for £350. Jodie Hood is photographed with the Penhaligon's Bear and Chantal Worden-Evans (volunteer co-ordinator) and Julie Parker (Manager) of Penhaligon's Friends based in Redruth. Chantal and Julie explained the wonderful work Penhaligon's Friends carry out supporting bereaved children and their families offering support groups and working within schools and out reach groups. The donation raised by St Agnes AFC will be used to purchase Memory Bears for bereaved children. Jodie said "The work of Penhaligon's Friends is so inspiring and important. I have really enjoyed the visit and heating about the difference they make to bereaved children and the families".

Lexi Riley went to the Merlin MS Centre at Hewaswater near St Austell and is photographed with staff member Sarah Snell who took her around a tour of the facilities and explained how the charity provided support for people with not just MS but other conditions, including Parkinson's. The charity supports families, offers outreach and day respite with treatments available, including oxygen therapy. The money donated will be used towards their Splash Out Appeal for a therapy pool. Lexi commented "I enjoyed my tour around the Merlin MS Centre. It was brilliant to see how much this place is used to help MS sufferers and other patients with a range of needs along with the family's that also spend a lot of time at the centre. Without the Merlin MS Centre a lot of these people would not get the care they need! I am super proud to be part of St. Agnes club and think it's fantastic to be raising money for charities".

County & Regional Award!

Members of St Agnes AFC are delighted to have been recognised for their work and commitment to female football in Cornwall winning the Cornwall FA Award for Best Inclusive Project 2016/17 at the ceremony at the Alverton Hotel in Truro last week. The St Agnes AFC Project was focused around their Ladies and Girls section. The club has been running a lady's team for 14 years, welcoming players of any ability, age or commitment to join the squad. Over the last two seasons St Agnes AFC have developed a rapidly expanding girls section with the same ethos of welcoming all levels of experience and ability or disability. With over 100 females now involved aged from 5 to 55 years and a positive drive on supporting and qualifying female coaches the club is absolutely delighted to have received the award from Cornwall FA.

Also awarded on the evening was St Agnes AFC lady's player and girls coach Charlotte Collier who received the Cornwall FA Young Volunteer of the Year Award.

St Agnes AFC were nominated to the Regional judging panel and won the Regional Award for the Best Inclusive Project 2016/17: a really important achievement. The club will be representing the South West and West Midlands at national judging on June 20th 2017. Richard Pallot from Cornwall FA commented "We are extremely proud to have a club make it through to the National selection panel as The Best Inclusive Project was a really strong category with a lot of focus from County FA's this year, so to be selected is an incredible achievement. Well done to all at the club for flying the flag for Cornwall". Club Chair Mandy Kimmins responded "I am so excited that our female section ladies and girls has been recognised in this way! It's a tremendous accolade for St Agnes AFC and I want to share a huge thank you and well done to all our wonderful players, inspiring coaches, supportive parents, sponsors and everyone who has helped us along the way!"

Bristol Ladies Inspire Dynamos

More than 50 members of St Agnes AFC Dynamos Girls travelled to Bristol City Ladies on Saturday to watch them play Liverpool Ladies at the Stoke Gifford Stadium in Division1 of the FA's Women's Super League. Before the fixture they played in a Sister Clubs Tournament against teams from that area at Under 10's, 12's and 14's giving a tremendous account of themselves. They were treated to a tour of the ground and changing rooms before being mascots and flag bearers for the fixture. The match finished 1-1 and featured Cornish girl Jasmine Matthews playing for Bristol City Ladies who had visited the Dynamos at a training session earlier in the season. Returning from a back injury there was the loudest Cornish cheer when Jasmine came on from the bench. At the end of the match players from both Bristol City and Liverpool spent time signing autographs and posing for selfies and other photographs with the girls. Idols were met, photographs taken and dreams realised.

Jasmine Matthews said "Massive thanks to the St Agnes Girls for their support today, they certainly picked a good game to watch and brought us good luck". Mandy Kimmins from St Agnes AFC said "What a truly inspiring day! The Dynamos Girls had a wonderful trip meeting players from both teams who are real role models for them who have worked hard to follow and achieve their dreams. Thank you to Jasmine for visiting us at training and for making the day even more special". Jasmine posed for one photo with St Agnes Dynamos Girls players who are present and future pupils at her old school at Redruth.

FA Mixed Gender Pilot

St Agnes AFC hosted the first FA sanctioned 11-a-side mixed gender charity fixture at Enys Parc as part of an FA Pilot looking into the format. Whilst youth football can he played as mixed throughout all age groups this adult 11-a-side mixed format is not presently permitted. St Agnes AFC applied for permission following a request from the FA for projects and out of seven sanctioned were the only club in the country to receive the go ahead, the others being League and County FA based.

The fixture was the first 11-a-side sanctioned mixed gender match to be played not just in Cornwall, but also in England. The event opened with a moving and respectful minutes applause in memory of club stalwart Russell Fowler. Two teams made up of players from St Agnes AFC Ladies and Mens teams featured in the match with the St Agnes AFC mixed gender Bolsters beating St  Agnes AFC mixed gender All Stars 6-3. The match was played in great spirit to the enjoyment of players and spectators. An overview of thoughts from the players, officials and spectators of the experience of being involved in the fixture will be forwarded to Brunel University who are monitoring and evaluating the FA Pilot.

Proceeds from the event, which included a raffle and mini-auction reached almost £700 and will be shared between two Cornish Charities Penhaligon's Friends (supporting bereaved children) and the Merlin MS Centre.

CWFL Champions!

All roads led to Enys Parc on Sunday as St Agnes AFC Ladies hosted a depleted St Breward Ladies in their penultimate fixture of the 2016/17 Season. With the final score 10-0 to St Agnes (Jodie Hood 2,  Debbie Duncan 2, Lexi Riley 3, LB Medcalf, Suzanne Hurrell, Helen Jones on target) the result saw them lift the Pirate FM CWFL League Winner's Trophy. Unbeaten so far this season, St Agnes face Bude Ladies next week, which is sure to be a tough match to close the season as they are the only team to take point off them in their only 1-1 draw at home.

Following a players vote and with a few players retiring/moving away the team have not applied for promotion as the squad hasn't enough players able to commit to the extra travel etc involved at SWWFL. After a few weeks down season break St Agnes Ladies will resume training for the 2017/18 Season and ladies players (aged 16 and over) of any level of experience or none at all welcome to contact manager Mandy Kimmins for more details 07974 370666 or email

Grow The Game 2014-15

As the 2016/17 Season draws towards its conclusion St Agnes AFC Under 18's team are still in training and playing fixtures within their league. Two seasons ago St Agnes AFC were successful in an application to the FA Football Foundation Grow the Game Scheme receiving £1500 over the two seasons. Initially the grant had been intended to start a 4th men's team, but with support and agreement from the FA the project morphed into an Under 18's 11 aside squad to fit the group of players better. Over the two seasons in excess of twenty Under 18's players have participated, who may not have been involved in football without the project and its funding. The funding allowed for kit purchase, coaching qualifications, equipment and other team running expenses. Team coach Rhydian Purnell said "It has been a fantastic couple of years working with this team. They have trained consistently, worked hard and stuck together as a squad well. A great group of players. The funding from the Grow the Game Scheme has enabled our club to sustain this team and I have been able to undertake my FA Level 2 Coaching course”.

Club Chair Mandy Kimmins said "The funding St Agnes AFC received from Grow the Game has been crucial in setting up our under 18's 11 aside team. The FA Football Foundation were really helpful in helping us sort it out in the first place and the outcome in keeping this group playing football has been well the effort”.

Mixed Gender FA Pilot

St Agnes AFC will be the first club in Cornwall and one of the first nationally to host an FA sanctioned mixed gender open aged charity football fixture. It will held at the clubs home ground Enys Parc as part of an FA pilot looking into the format. With encouragement from Cornwall FA, St Agnes AFC responded to a request from the FA for pilot competitions to apply for permission to host specific football events. The structure being in a format presently not permitted by the FA with adult men and women playing together in mixed teams.
St Agnes AFC were the only club to receive permission with 6 other league/county based pilots also sanctioned across the country. The FA pilot will be monitored by Brunel University. They will be specifically looking at whether the experience of Mixed Gender Open Age Football differs in character or incident to a comparable single sex competition or fixture as the FA looks to extend flexibility in football. The fixture is in the final planning stages with a date to be announced shortly and will feature members of St Agnes AFC Ladies and Mens teams. All proceeds from the match will be shared between two Cornish Charities the Merlin MS Centre and Penhaligon's Friends supporting bereaved children.
Richard Pallot from Cornwall FA supporting the project said “We are delighted that the application from St Agnes to host a Charity football match has been chosen by The FA as 1 of only 7 events nationally to act as a pilot for adult mixed gender football. The opportunity for the male and female sections of the club to join forces on the pitch whilst also raising money for charity is a great idea and the club should be proud to have been chosen to pioneer this new FA initiative”. St Agnes AFC Chair, Mandy Kimmins said "As a club we are always looking for new challenges, to support initiatives and hold different events . This is our next project and will be a fantastic opening for us to be part of this exciting pilot. We are really pleased to be able to plan and host this charity fixture whilst supporting two important Cornish Charities”.
The other competitions granted permission by the FA's Sanction and Registrations Committee to play in the mixed gender open aged format are:-
·         Surrey CFA Business League
·         Birmingham CFA – Football v’s Homophobia Charity Match
·         Dorset FA Business League
·         Merseyside Gay Pride Football Tournament
·         Bedfordshire Teachers Five a Side League
